1. UTILITY INFRASTRUCTURE CONCEPTUAL PLANS

Sohar New Districts project involved Conceptual Infrastructure Designs for utilities such as water, wastewater, electricity, and telecom distribution systems. These were considered during the planning phase of the Master Development Plan for all the areas considered.

A study was also conducted by Surface and Ground Water Section of Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources as required by SIEC for design floods that traverse the project location. The aim of the study is to thoroughly assess the behavior of flood water and to properly address the constraints for an efficient and economical solution.

  • Studied flood flow of District B

2. ROAD LAYOUT & PROFILING

As part of the perceived development for the new districts project at Sohar, road layout and profiling; site leveling; and pavement design were formulated. This is to define road elements to support ROW and land plan; define site elevations for efficient earthwork/drainage requirements; design an all-weather asphalt or concrete pavement responsive to traffic loads.

The road feature was planned to provide for service roads, intersection treatment (e.g. roundabouts, lighting system, traffic enforcement), non-motorized transport and high-quality transport system, and promote walkability through an integrated linear park system.

3. FLOOD CONTROL STUDY

SIEC and its Team of Expert also conduct site investigation of natural phenomenon such as the occurrence of floods during cyclone weather. The topographic feature such as present mostly in Oman defines the existence of Wadi areas. These Wadis are described as riverbeds or streams for which during rains carries storm waters. Unsupervised Wadis can caused casualties to neighboring residents even fatality. In Oman, Wadi problems are treated as the main concern.

SIEC has handled project studying the behavior of Wadis. The situational analysis that has been derived from the study has tremendously help mitigate for an engineering solution and thus in the future prevent casualties and loss of life and properties.

With the aid of highly sophisticated and state —of-the-art instruments, SIEC and its Team of Expert efficiently delivers the most accurate information needed to map out wadi problems. SIEC uses 3D Laser Scanner, GPS, handheld GPS devices and advance software to carry out its flood control study.
